Our fearless leader...Les..
I just wanted to give you a brief explanation of Les Evans....(aka Leslie Rose, Lester, Leader, and Silly)
He is a graduate of LCC, and is currently the baseball coach. He made this trip amazing, and interesting. From singing, dressing up as a girl, and well as the pictures come up you will see the insanity Candra Landers put us through:)
WE LOVE LES!!!
Homelessness, U Turns, and a StoreHouse...
Day 2-
Monday was pretty interesting. Due to the Mission group we were to work with canceling we did not know what we were doing from day to day...which was crazy...
However we did know that we were going to go to the Fashion district of Los Angeles and talk with the homeless. We also made 70 lunched to take with us. When we got there it was a sad sight. People laying on the sidewalks sleeping, getting arrested for making thier home in a tent on the sidewalks, little kids running around with no shoes, and just the amount of people. When we got out of the van I looked around and cannot discribe what I thought. It was sad. As we started passing out the lunches we of course ran out within 3 minutes which I am not even joking. I watched people run over eachother just to get a sack lunch...that may have been the only meal they had that day. (Due to the privicy of the public NO pictures of thi
We broke off into group and went out to talk to people, and as we were walking I watched myself become more and more invinceable. I was ready to go off on my own, and talk to people...the group said NO, but I was ready. We walked, and looked, and to a group of college kids this was something new to most of us. Not me however, I have seen homeless I slept in a church parking lot to make it aware. As we got closer to the the core of were most of the people were standing I coulds smell the Meth they were smoking, and the pot they were lighting up. That was hard to grasp, but for most of them thats all they have, thats all they know, and thats all they can think about. This was an experiance that I think we will all remember.
After our trip to the fashion district we went to get food...in CHINATOWN....cooler then ever...although I think every major city has a Chinatown....anyway the food was great, and the fellowship was better!!!
U TURNS-
Everywhere we went we had to make a U Turn...our host was just as lost as we were, and Les (our trip leader, and the baseball coach) had only one person to count on and that was our host....we started making it a way of life....even when Les knew where he was going he made a U turn....he is a funny one:)
The StoreHouse-
The storehouse is a place for familes to go to for food and clothing. It is all free, and is open to anyone. Three of us were asked to clean the house, and when we walked in we had our worked cut out for us. There where clothes, boxes, and juck from the floor to the ceiling. We DID it though, and we had fun with it along the way. We dressed up, and took pictures, and even found some old stuff that I am sure is worth some money.
That is day 2. There are a lot of things I am sure I have forgotten, but these are the major things!!!
Were to begin...
Last week I got the awesome chance to go to Los Angeles, California for Week of E. Basically a week long mission trip.
I was not sure how I was going to put into words the experience's because words will not do justice to what my eyes seen. But here goes...
Day 1-We left LCC at 6:50ish, and headed to O'Hare. We knew as a group we were going to be late getting there. We pulled into the airport 15 min. before our flight was supposed to take off. By the grace of God we all made it through the crowd, and to the gate as they were shutting the door. TO make it even more of a God thing...ALL of our luggage made it as well.
We got to L.A. and renting a car was the WORSE experiance....we only had one car..(the van) changed to the account, and we needed an extra car because we had more people then seats. An hour and 45 min we were there, we had not eaten, and we were all kind of acting DUMB because we were confined for 4 hours and 30 min on a FULL flight....
We finally got it all settled and we were off....so we thought....the car they gave us....the battery was DEAD....so we in turn got a Colbt we named "LIGHTING" it was bright yellow, and looked GREAT. What is even crazier.....we got a 12 passenger van, and a 5 passenger car...and all together we had 19 people.....
We then headed for the church, and learned the mission group were were going to work with canceled...the AFTERNOON before...so our host was lost at what to do, but that will come later:)
We finally got FOOD....and lots of it. 60 mini tacos for 45 bucks!!! It was a deal, and GOOD. We had a real meal like an hour later, but think about it 17 college students that had not eaten ALL day....yea...."DUH UMB" We all went across the street to the park, and played frisbee after that.

It hit me in that moment at the park that we were the minorities in the neighborhood. We were in a high gang populated part of town, 95% Latino, and homeless. We had a curfew of 6:30, and we were to go in groups of two or more....and the girls....yea we were not aloud anywhere without a guy.
So day 1 was cool, ad day 2 is even better......

17 dollar batteries, and an EpiPen....
Well I am leaving for L.A in about 7 hours. The suitcase is packed, the carry on is ready, and somewhere I have a purse and ID's. However the most important things I have are my batteries for the digital camera that somehow cost 17.79, but were on the 8.99 peg, and my EpiPen....it hit me about two weeks before my trip that I am going to a warmer climate, and that same climate a few years ago had KILLER BEES....any bee to me is killer. Being highly allergic I called the doctor got a fancy note, and I think I am good to go....I will see when I get there because I am sure I have forgotten something.
I ask that you all pray for myself and thee 14 others that are going with me to Los Angeles, the families and children we will be working with, and also that God show his presence to us in ways we will never forget.
Have a BLESSED Easter, and I will post pictures and a blog when I return, and after i get some sleep:)
Blessings!!!
